Conduct

Conduct which interferes with the rights of other students to learn will not be tolerated and could result in removal from summer school. Events surrounding the reason the student is sent to the office will be investigated and due process given. All USD 259 BOE Policies are in effect for summer school.  

 

Dress and Courtesy

The general atmosphere of a school must be conducive to learning. If a student’s general appearance attracts undue attention to the extent that it becomes a disruptive factor, the student will be asked to make necessary changes.

 

Cell Phones

Cell phone usage is prohibited during class time. USD 259 is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen electronic devices brought to summer school by students.

 

Transportation

 

District transportation to summer school is NOT provided. Students can ride Wichita Transit free. For route information, see wichitatransit.org or use bus directions on digital map features.
 

 

Attendance Policy

Students are expected to be present each day of summer school without exception. When students are unable to be present for the entire 12 days, students risk removal from the summer school opportunity without credit and without refund. Family vacations, doctor appointments, and other commitments should not be planned during summer school classes.

 

No make-up sessions will be held. Three (3) tardies equal one (1) absence. Any student late after 30 minutes to a session is considered absent. Students with one or more (1) excused absences may be withdrawn with an “F” and no refunds will be given. Students with any unexcused absences will be withdrawn with an “F” and no refunds will be given.  Emergency absences will be up to the discretion of the summer school administrator.

 

Dropping a course after the first day of summer school may result in an “F” and forfeiture of enrollment fees.

 

Online Courses

 

Education Imagine Academy (EIA) will offer Government and Financial Literacy online through Edgenuity for up to 120 participants per course. On Friday, May 22, 2026, students must attend a face-to-face training session from 10:00-11:00 for Government and 11:15-12:15 for Financial Literacy at 412 S. Main. Students will meet in person for the proctoring of their final exam on or before Thursday, June 18, 2026. Failure to attend the final exam will result in failure of the course.

Summer School Details

•   Students must enroll through their base school counselor and should contact the Summer School Contact (information listed) from your base school should you have any questions.

 

•   Current 8^th grade students wanting to take PE and Health Foundations during summer school must enroll through their base high school. Please see contact information listed.

 

•   Session runs from June 1 - June 18 for a total of 12 days. Summer school will not be in session on Fridays.

 

•   First semester courses (.5 credit) are offered in the morning session: 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

 

•   Second semester courses (.5 credit) are offered in the afternoon session: 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

 

•   Breakfast and lunch will be provided on site.

 

•   Course offerings are contingent on enrollment. Students taking online courses will be notified the week of May 18, 2026, of final details. Students taking in-person courses will be notified the week of May 25, 2026, of final details.

 

•   Original credit Government & Financial Literacy may be available for concurrent credit through WSUTech for qualifying students. Information will be provided at the start of summer school, if available.

Enrollment

 

Enrollment starts on Monday, April 6, 2026. The last day to enroll for online summer school courses is Friday, May 15, 2026, by 3:00 PM. The last day to enroll for in-person summer courses is Friday, May 22, 2026, by 3:00 PM. To enroll, students must see a counselor for course selection and completion of the enrollment form. Enrollment is not complete until entered by the base high school. Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis and could be closed early due to full enrollment.

Current WPS Students:

·        Original Credit - $90 per half credit

·        Recovery Credit - free

All Other Students: $150 per half credit

 

*No refund will be issued after the first day of summer school.

Course Offerings

High school summer recovery courses allow students to earn credit in required subject areas if they have previously failed the course.

 

Original credit based on the following criteria:

1. Government, students entering their senior year and early graduate candidates (0.5 credits)

 

2. Financial Literacy, students entering their junior or senior year (0.5 credits)

 

3. PE & Health Foundations, students entering their freshman year or beyond (1.0 credits)

 

4. Professional Communications, students entering their sophomore year or beyond (0.5 credits)
